Your Best Birth Possible

DOULA

Supporter. Friend. Cheerleader
Q: Why should we hire a doula?

A: Doulas are an AMAZING tool for you and your family! You get to have the support that is specifically designed to your needs and wants. We will constantly support you and your needs, emotionally, physically and spiritually. We can give dad/partner a break when needed, but never replace the role of dad/partner, rather we will enhance the experience for everyone involved. With a doula present, you can have a shorter labor! Doulas will help the mom feel empowered through positive encouragement, help you feel relaxed and comfortable through breathing techniques, massage and acupressure points. It is also said that having a doula present leaves you with a greater feeling of satisfaction with your birth experience and more at ease with baby after birth. The benefits are endless!

Q: What is the difference between a midwife and a doula?

A: Midwives are holistically trained medical care providers who take care of the health of the mom and baby. Doulas are specifically trained to care for mom's emotional, physical and informational needs. We can help relieve moms pain through massage, acupressure and breathing techniques. We do NOT give any kind of medical diagnosis, take blood pressure or check fetal heart rate. Doulas can not, and will not perform any kind of medical interventions.

Q: Will a doula replace my husband/partner during the birth?

A: Absolutely not! If anything, doulas will enhance the experience for everyone involved. As a doula, our main focus is to support mom in any way that we can. Doulas will encourage husbands and partners to " get in there " and help with position changes, or be the focal point for mom. Many husbands/partners are very grateful for a doula through the birthing journey because we help make sure they can always help out, or take over if they need a rest or something to eat! All in all, we work together as a team to get mom as comfortable and relaxed as we can.

Q: Can doulas attend hospital births?

A: Definitely! This is probably our main " working space ". There are also some doulas that attend home births so long as there is a midwife or attending physician. ( Doulas do not and can not give medical diagnosis, do not check blood pressure or dilation etc. )
